JS Khehar, Chief Justice of India made the announcement previous week as an appeal brought to court. Supreme court had given the government the period of one year to implement the new rule. According to the reports from Economic Times, The court added that customers would be required to fill up Aadhaar-based e-KYC forms to ensure true identity. But, the court hasn’t made it clear whether existing customers will have to do the same to recharge their phones. Aadhaar is India’s biometric identity program that stores citizens fingerprints and IRIS scans apart from other identity details. Right now, there are over 1 billion Aadhar card holders in the country. Well, it is worth to note that court’s decision to implement an identity check might impact all telecom operators in India and can also witness a drop in its subscriber base because there will be a lot of inconvenience to the general public.
